What would the Muller household be without a little stress and excitement? I think we wouldn’t know what to do. On Monday, Tim and I went to the ER as there was something seriously and neurologically wrong with T’s back. He was losing motor and feeling to his left leg and even control of his bladder. He got an MRI but the Dr. said there was nothing remarkable about the film that couldn’t be taken care of at the clinic. The ER doctor I think was still concerned about Tims neurological symptoms and asked us if we wanted a second opinion. Thankfully my future sister in law works for the Neurology clinic at the University of New Mexico hospital and recommended one of the Dr.’s she works with. The ER doctor spoke with her that night and she said to send him over to UNMH. The ER doctor agreed and told us he would start the process for the transfer. Well I think it was a problem politically since the ER we were at was not affiliated with the University Hospital so the process stalled. We sat in the ER with Tim on a hospital gurney for 25 hours. Tim had to get his back doctor involved to get him transferred. After telling us that “he was not high priority”, they finally had him transferred by ambulance to the University Hospital. The neurosurgeon met him at the ER, and before I even got to the new hospital, she had him prepped and IN SURGERY. She told my brother in law that “she hoped that she got in there in time to not have permanent nerve damage”. She said the disc fragment that she pulled from his spine was a “10″ if she was to rate it 1 to 10. She is pleased with how things are progressing and it looks like there will be minimal residual weakness (if any) of the nerves that were being crushed. We are so thankful for the doctors at UNMH. We are SO thankful for Beth for pulling strings for the best surgeons to work on Tim (as they were not on duty when he arrived). They both stayed after their shift to perform the surgery. PRAISE GOD! He said it is like night and day on how he is feeling. Posturally he is standing and walking so well compared to a few days ago. The pain is now more surgically related vs a pain related to nerve impingement. In a couple of hours, we will be discharged home to recouperate!!! All’s well that ends well.
Yet Another Detour…
April 15th, 2010A Little Detour…
April 12th, 2010Gosh! Have we been busy. Josh has made it to his third State Competition for History Day as most of you know, with years before, and as most of you parents know. When a child has a big homework project. Mom and Dad have a big homework project. We must say though that we are very proud of Josh this year, because the only work that the parents have really had to do is minor editing here and there. But with him not having his license yet, most of the “bus” work falls on Nancy. We love the gas friendly car she has now with Soccer, Library and other after school runs she does. In the midst of this busy life, we had a great distraction [all too short one though] with Nancy’s aunt and uncle from Canada. Aunt Allison and Uncle Larry. We had such a wonderful visit with them. They stayed the night in Albuquerque passing through on their way back to Canada from Arizona. Our visit even included some of our busy runs. They tried to endure the NASTY Albuquerque “Spring” weather to watch Ashlea play soccer. What troopers! After that the kids visited their hotel pool for a dip and then we enjoyed a late night dinner. It was a GREAT distraction from our regular schedule.
We had such a wonderful time and loved our visit with them. We can’t wait to see them again. Thanks for the fun and detour!
Spring Break 2010
March 23rd, 2010
Spring Break…what a well needed break it was. Nothing exciting. Low key and hanging out but just what the Mullers needed. School requirements for all the kids stepped up a notch this year and they were ready for the break. This time of year for Nancy is always a nightmare. Spring Break is just one step closer to summer break! Tim finds it harder to get out the door when we all are on break…which we all enjoy. Ashlea did her usual thing…soccer. Josh…basketball. Sarah…dancing and singing. Josh also had a wonderful opportunity to speak with two experts in the field of Cartography. It was a good learning curve in preparing his web site for the state competition. Spring is always a fun time for the family. Tim usually plays softball which is a great time for fellowship and fun. Tim and Joshua will go on the mission trip in a couple of weeks which will be an awesome experience to spread the Word and the love of Christ. Joshua is preparing for STATE History Day and his eighth grade graduation. What a change it will be for all of us!! Here we go…count down to summer…let’s all finish STRONG.
A Face ONLY a Mother Could Love
March 10th, 2010This image haunts Tim every day. This is what fourteen brings! CRAZY!
Officially a TEEN! No longer a pre-teen or 13 year old wanna be. Before his birthday and especially now after it, for some reason, he has been asking to drive lately. He can’t wait for High School to start. He is the B.M.O.C. [Big Man On Campus] and thinks that he is at the house. The testosterone level in Nancy’s house right now is unreal. Tim and Josh wrestle almost every night of the week. Then after the house is torn up, they blame each other for the mess. Really it’s Josh’s fault! We now have a TEEN in our house! AAAAHHHHHH! This year for his birthday he wanted some friends to come stay the night for a boy [I mean guy] fest. The Plan; fill each kid with energy drinks, pizza and video games. Tim put on a brave face [begged for mercy] and took all the boys to his brother Ed’s house where they were welcomed by three video game machines, along with three separate televisions. To some it might sound like the worst night ever, but to them it was paradise for that one night. They played and ate till 5:30 am the next morning. Tim said that’s when the first boy finally fell asleep and thankfully the others soon followed. According to Josh though, it was the time of their lives! Tim kindly disagrees. It took Josh and Tim two days to recover! Ugh! Leading up to this birthday we have thought often of our little Bubba. That little blond walking around ruling the roost and playing with everything that his room had to offer, while watching his favorite cartoons. He was the older brother who would run the show, telling us what time bed time was, the rules or just flat out telling his sisters what to do. We miss that little guy all to often. He needed us then. Even if it was just for homework, to get toys down or help him put something together. It sometimes frustrates us to see that pass, but now it is a new season, and the bible says that there is a Season for everything. He has grown into a wonderful young man and we guess it’s that Season. We can’t wait for what this Season has for us, but we look forward to it with great anticipation. Even if it has a little testosterone sprinkled on it.
Love you BUBS!
^ Eleven ^
February 28th, 2010There are a great many events that happened in the year 1999. Some of them good and some bad. 1999 brought us a world population of 6 billion, a U.S. woman’s soccer team that won the World Cup, Columbine, Michael Jordan retiring… Again. Personally though for us, all of these events paled in comparison to one MAJOR event that year. The birth of our girl Ashlea Rae! What a wonderful year! She was a BEAUTIFUL baby. Since then, she has been an enormous blessing to everyone who has crossed her path. She is an incredibly special girl! Her eyes light up any room, her smile is contagious and this year has blossomed into a beautiful young lady. BOYS beware! She is a soccer fanatic and is really good at it. She does great in school and we couldn’t have asked for a better sister for Josh and Sarah. She is so amazing!
There is one problem that Tim does have with her though that MUST be brought up. It’s a promise that she made to him a long time ago and has since broken. He made her promise [and fully expected her to keep it] to NEVER grow up. We know she has tried her best, but this year she turned 11 and is well on her way to womanhood. It is such a bitter sweet thing to watch our kids grow. On one hand we want them to forever be those little babies that came to us with every care in the world, whether good or bad. In one instance we could make it better with a kiss or a hug. And on the other we create independence in them where they can do anything they put their minds to. With each passing day we thank God for the woman that she is becoming and along with that we long for that little baby girl that made every care in the world pass away. We love you Ash so very much!
Our Fourth Child
February 18th, 2010Actually before I start. It’s Nancy’s Fourth child. For those of you that don’t know him, or what I’m talking about, we call him Tux, short for Tuxedo. He just turned 2 years old. The youngest of the kids… After our first try with an over zealous Labrador Retriever named Noir. [Now named Ping and lives with my brother Ed] We [Tim] didn’t think that I would like or even think about having another animal in the house, let alone another dog. But the powers that be [Nancy and her 3 cronies] talked and conspired against me to seek out another dog. Now the cool thing is that Nancy has grown up with some type of shepherd dog in her family and loved them. When Josh and Ashlea were growing up, she had an Shetland Sheepdog named Sage. She tragically passed away. So after Sage and Ping, I didn’t think that Nancy was up for another pup, but she was and always is. Well for those that don’t know, this is Tux.
He is an emotionally unstable dog [I joke] he is awesome with all of the kids, especially Sarah. Even when she bosses him around and pulls his hair or drags him with a leash. [in the house] I have to admit, he is a really good and smart dog, like all shepherds. But don’t tell my family I said this…
(ps. – If Sarah had her way to name the pup it would have been something like Pickles or Shmarshmellow.)
Beauty Sleep
February 9th, 2010You know sometimes there are some decisions in life that you think to yourself, “should I have allowed that to happen?”. At the beginning of last year, when the girls bunk beds fell apart, we search for beds. While shopping we asked the girls what kind of bunk bed we should replace it with. To that Ashlea replied that she liked it when, in the middle of the night, Sarah would some how end up in her bed. We thought it was cute as well, but didn’t know how it would pan out if we encouraged it. We redesigned their room around their new bed [singular] they picked out. One new “double” bed. Fresh color on the walls, new Jonas Brothers posters, new sheets, new comforters the works. The first night went off without a hitch, then the second and the following. But then something happened… Ashlea was invited to sleep at a friends house! What was the snuggle bunny to do? Well have a sleep over with her mom and dad. GREAT IDEA on the ONE bed! Huh! NO it wasn’t a good idea. Well not entirely bad. We get great pictures like this…
Snuggle bunnies are the best at what they do. Snuggle. These two have become so close. Like sisters. Oh wait they are. Yes they have their momentary light fight now and again, but when that time comes. Bed time. It all goes away. And all is well. We find that in the middle of the night when one of us goes to check on them that there is some kind of contact. Initiated by either girl. Its that comfort that they both seek. Their husbands are gonna hate us… But back to that nagging question. Should we have allowed it to happen? Well for right now, we think it is wonderful. You have to remind yourself, those that know, that Sarah at the age of 3 [in the middle of that year] learned how to sleep for the first time in her life “through the entire night”. She suffered, or should I say Nancy and Tim [more Nancy than Tim] as a Colicky baby and was unable to sleep through the night without waking any where from 2 to 4 times a night. It was exhausting. Ashlea also suffered from sharing a room with her. We know this is gonna end soon due to the fact that the older is gonna want her privacy, but for now it works for all those that are involved. Especially for the cuddle bunnies.
The Class of 2014
January 28th, 2010We don’t know about you, but that title doesn’t sound good.
On Wednesday night this comment was made through out the night. We didn’t care for it and wondered if the principal would stop saying it. Last week we had our first experience with High School. Eldorado HS hosted their “8th grade night” on Wednesday for their incoming freshmen. Yes, little Josh will be a FRESHMAN. What a scary thought. Tim and Nancy are not handling this thought very well. It may come as a shock to you, but it became a real big shock to us. We think a shock to Josh as well. Why? Well, for the last 6 years, we feel we have been truly blessed to have our kids attend a private school here in Albuquerque, named Albuquerque Christian School. A school where kids are forced to follow rules, focus a lot of attention on academia and are asked to follow dress codes. The students also helped in any way shape or form if they struggle with any of these areas. It has promoted in us all to live in this little “private school” bubble, where the class size is 15 and they have known each other since their start at ACS. Last night was a true eye opener to what we and our children have been missing out on. Nancy gets a glimmer of public schools and the type of kids and families that are involved there; but we all saw what Josh might get to see on a regular basis come next year. When we first started at ACS, we all thought uniforms were dumb and crazy. The attire [if you can refer to it as such] we saw on some of the new students made us rethink the uniform thing. …maybe they are NOT so bad. We were SHOCKED to see what some parents allow or what kids [girls] choose to wear in public ( And to think this was just their clothes we were worried about). Again, I know this might sound weird, but it made us realize and be some what thankful that we lived in our little bubble.
Josh is very excited about the thought of High School though. [We hope its just for the school and not the girls clothes.] He said that he looked forward to the change and seeing all the different people. A lot more than the same 15 kids in a class. Nancy and Tim on the other hand are a little bit more hesitant to see this drastic change to their little boy. We know that God definitely has a plan for Josh and that he is a great young man. It’s the other outward influences that scare us the most. We are trusting in the Lord to lead him in a direction that ends with as little of those influences taking root. He is a wonderful son, brother and friend. We are so blessed to have such a man in our family. WE LOVE YOU BUBBA!
RSS Feed
January 28th, 2010We wanted to thank everyone that visits our site. Thank you to all our family and friends that check back in with us. We are glad to have you come and visit us. Tim has been trying to think of ways to make this easier for you all. Us being new to the “World of Blog”, we didn’t know about this wonderful tool called RSS Feed. This tool actually helps you NOT have to type in our site name or have a need for multiple clicks on your computers. There is a button that is now on our site, just under the search bar [on the right side of our page] and you can “Subscribe” to our Blog.
It doesn’t need to be signed up for or there is no obligation. Subscribing will add a folder to your to your “Favorites” or “Links” Toolbar on your web browser[Internet Explorer or Firefox], and every time that Tim or Nancy add to the site a new entry or blog. Your new folder will have our latest entry in it. It is a great little tool. When you click on this button, follow the instructions and your web browser will do the rest. If you have any questions, leave a comment for Tim and he’ll help you with it. Thanks again for stopping in and keeping up with our family!
WOW! 2010 is Officially here!
January 21st, 2010My goodness! We have hit the ground running in 2010. We don’t know about you, but our January has been super busy with getting back to school and work after the Winter break. We have had trouble getting back to a regular schedule. Obviously, we have, because we haven’t even been on the blog lately. But we will get back to it as quickly as we can. One great thing that we wanted to note for you all, is that Josh finished his Eighth grade year on the “A” Team for Basketball. He had a wonderful time and season with this, with his team finishing 2nd in their division and with him personally scoring the most points of his junior high career with 75 points for the season. We are so proud of him and how disciplined he has been with becoming better in his game. He has his sights on pursuing a high school basketball career. He will attend Eldorado High School right by the house and is looking forward to trying out for a couple of other sports as well. We are very excited at these pursuits, we love watching all of our kids in their sports and school activities.
Ashlea on the other hand has had some troubling games this Winter for her sports. Her Basketball team is playing “up” in their division, so our girls look as though they have entered the land of the giants. They have weathered the losses and probably are looking for a break. She is usually good for 2 or more baskets per game. She is also still playing indoor soccer and loves it. She is really making it her passion and she still is pursuing her dream. Her two biggest fans love that she is so diligent in that pursuit. Now, where to start with Sarah…. She is really excited about playing something and having all her family come “watch” her play whatever it is she wants to play this year. She is presently on a waiting list for soccer and we are going to try out dance and gymnastics as well. Tim has a cousin that runs a dance school so they are going to allow us to try out a couple of classes. Personally we think that she will like this, due to the fact that the fashion-iesta can dress up. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Gymnastics though. We’ll see.
Tim and Nancy are doing great. Nancy recently started a weight loss challenge with four other girls. [Editor note: as if she needed to lose any more weight.......] She is sore in places that she wasn’t before, and likes it. Those that know Nancy well know that she loves this kind of pain. Weird, but that’s Nance. We are proud of her, Tim is trying to work through all the greens that he is seeing on his plate. The meat and potatoes are there, but they are under or over these strange leaves. He is very confused. Hopefully he can work through this. He seems to think that the meat misses him. As a matter of fact, he is sure that meat misses him……
